Physiotherapy At Home

What to expect:

1) Assessment

During your first assessment, you will be asked about your health history and also your condition and the problems you might be facing. Aspects of your movement will be analysed (muscle tone and strength, flexibility, balance, posture, coordination, sensation etc). After the assessment the Physio will tell you how she can help you and how many sessions you are likely to require in order to achieve your goals.

2) Goal Setting

Between you and your physiotherapist (& your family, where appropriate) you will discuss the issues which need to be addressed and devise a list of goals to aim for.

3) Treatment

Your therapist will then design a treatment plan to help you achieve your goals.
Treatments may involve a hands-on approach to assist you to relearn a movement, strengthening and flexibility exercises (often utilising Pilates techniques), challenging your balance and also regular practice of functional activities and advice to assist you further.

Physio Focus at Home also offers ongoing 'maintenance' treatments for patients, with the aim of maintaining or improving exercise tolerance and function.  These can be organised on a regular, weekly basis at a time that suits.

4) Home Exercise Programme

As part of your treatment session, your Physiotherapist will give you a Home Exercise Programme for you to continue between treatments. This will be updated as you make progress.
You will be given a plan to follow with sections for you to complete when you carry out your programme.

5) Reassessment

At regular intervals you will be reassessed using special tests, specific to your needs, to establish improvement in your condition and highlight which areas may need further intervention.

All information you provide will remain confidential. In the event that any of your personal information need to be shared with other health care professionals, your consent will be obtained prior to contact.
